Jose Enrique Ucan Briceno AKA Careto
Jose is our head guide, husband to Lily, and father of Parker and Romeo. He grew up in Punta Allen, and has been guiding since he was 14 years old (1995). He fishes in the March Merkin and Del Brown permit tournaments out of Key West. Del Brown 2018 Grand Champion. March Merkin 2022 Grand Champion. His favorite boat snack is the Arcoiris cookie (marshmallow with coconut flakes).
Nestor Mukul Xec
Nestor started guiding at Pesca Maya when he was 20 years old (2006). He’s been working for us since 2014. His English is so good, he even speaks sarcasm. “In my free time I like spending time with my 2 sons, and going fishing with my friends. My favorite fish is the Silver King/tarpon.” Nestor’s favorite boat cookie is Chokis (chocolate chip).
Miguel Mukul Xec
Miguel starting flyfishing at 15 years old. He doesn’t have a favorite fish, instead he appreciates each fish’s attributes. For example he says he enjoys the complexity of the permit and the generosity of the bonefish. In his free time he likes to spend time with his family and tie flies. He’s team Arcoiris for boat snacks (marshmallow coconut cookies).
Jesus Marin Cauich AKA Chucho
Chucho started guiding at age 18 out of Viejo Chac where his Tio Manuel took him under his wing and taught him his secrets. Chucho’s been with us since early 2021. He loves tarpon, his daughters & wife, and his favorite boat snack is Cheetos.
William Garcia Cruz AKA Willy
Eagle Eye Willy’s been guiding with us since 2013. He loves to fish in his free time. You’ll never see him in a hat, he’s a visor guy. And his favorite boat snack is Doritos.
Eduardo Manuel Noh
Eduardo’s been guiding since he turned 18. He loves to fish for tarpon in his free time. And he goes for the Ruffles Queso as a snack on the water.
Juventino Domingues Pech AKA Tino
Juventino has been guiding since 2018. In his free time he likes to freedive and fish. His favorite targets are permit and snook. Boat snack, team Ruffles Queso.
Gerardo Cahuich Huicab AKA Jerry
Gerardo just started guiding with us the summer of 2021. He’s a quick study with great eyes, and you can’t teach that. He can’t decide if permit, bonefish, or tarpon is his favorite fish. But he knows his favorite boat snack is Doritos.
Orlando Chimal Jimenez
Orlando started assistant guiding in 2019. He enjoys learning the different techniques and tricks of the trade from all the head guides. During his free time, Orlando likes to fish, spend time with his family, and listen to rock, ballads, or country music. He goes for the Chokis cookies (chocolate chip) on the boat.
